In the beginning of 2020, I sort of went through a whirlwind of misery, my relationship arbitrarily ending, getting blacklisted from college placements because of being careless about updates and leaving my position as ux designer for something better without a plan. I remember feeling extreme dread and stress every morning before I headed out to the library to learn coding everyday. I used to vent and write down my thoughts everyday on notion on my laptop. It was just uncategorized venting, but something changed, I started to run and going to gym everyday. This routine of waking up everyday at 5 and going for a run and then gym, although a little difficult at first had fundamental changes on my mental landscape.

Little by little I observed my mental patterns changing.

Within a couple of months I was in way better shape than I ever had been, I got placed in an excellent company, and everything seemed to turn around for good. After months had passed I happen to stumble on my journal again, and the thoughts that I had written down months ago seemed completely alien. I wondered what my reaction would have been if the past me could see this fundamental change in my mental pattern.

That’s when an idea struck me, I had been spending 10s of hours everyday working as an SDE for the company and planning for my career growth but when it came to fundamental values, I was still empty.

What if there was a way to vent and build a catalogue of my thoughts, and be able to visualize these mental changes, wouldn’t this be a brilliant vector of hope for anybody going through a dark phase in my life, to be able to reflect on the changes they have been through and be more precise about their own values.

How it works

As you use the app you encounter questions categorized under these labels

Existential — Questions that make you question your reality and dismantle the foundation of your existence

Growth— Questions that nudge you to think about where you are going and the authenticity of your goals

Personal — Questions that try to dismantle your personal insecurities and your triggers

Confrontational— Questions that seek to make you confront your demons and your excuses to make you more authentic

Vent— Questions that are asked by other users (anonymously or non-anonymously)

User journey

1. Contrast

As you encounter different questions through the app, you can chose to either answer the questions or pin the responses you like for later reflection. You can also set reminders for questions that you want to answer later. The real magic happens when you answer a question.

When you answer a question, it’s stored in your response history and you are incentivized to revisit the same question sometime later, when you re-answer it, a contrast is created, that visualizes your evolution of thought

2. Vent

You can chose to vent privately in the app also, and build categorized venting notes, if you chose you can ask questions anonymously or publish your venting notes too, both an anonymously or otherwise

3. Share

You can chose to share any posts or questions anonymously across social media, you can also design every post you share, set background image and chose different colors.

4. Pins and Reminders

While going through the app you can pin the responses you find interesting or set reminders for question to revisit later.

5. Unique Avatar

This is just a cool idea I had that I wanted to see in real life, there are unique user avatars in the app which is basically a unique arrangement of 5 different lines in a circle, this design is generated dynamically on signup and is mapped from the unique username.

Thanks for reading, I would really appreciate if you take some time out and give this app a chance and share feedback.
